Gustav to Be Salt in Katrina Wounds

Three years after Hurricane Katrina laid squander to much of New Orleans, 53-year-old Mike Gootee still bears the hurt he experienced when he lost his home, his community and his livelihood.

His home, located in the Vista Park neighborhood of the city, ended up underwater when a levy broke, implosion therapy the area with water nine feet deep.

The home had been where he had fully grown up, and it was where he had resided with his wife and 19-year-old word. He and his syndicate were constrained to relocate to nearby Lake Charles until the storm blew over.

"From a personal full point of view, it was hard," he said. "Loss of everything -- loss of my practice, loss of my community."

Gootee is not only one of the hurricane's millions of displaced victims; he is also a licensed mental health counselor. And he says that the receive introduced him firsthand to the anxiousness and torture that comes with losing it all.

"It's a lot of 'What do you do?' 'Do you go back?'" he said. "A lot of indecision."

Now, state emergency agencies and residents alike are bracing for the possibleness that the killer storm Gustav could follow Katrina's path. Brenda Roberts, a Lake Charles-based mental health counselor wHO survived both Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, which hit trey weeks later, said lingering fears ar indeed pickings a price on mental health.

"Whenever we see anything turn towards the Gulf, anxiety levels rise dramatically," she aforementioned. "People suit hyper-vigilant -- everything makes them nervous, and whatever unresolved feelings about past trauma drive stirred up.

"What they're going through correct now is a reawakening of all of those feelings. Some of those who went through the storm and lost their homes ar afraid of losing it again, particularly those world Health Organization lost everything, are soundless displaced and still not able to return home."

And new research suggests that even as Gootee and his fellow New Orleans residents twain for what could be yet some other encounter with a slayer storm, many of the health issues of those most gravely affected by Hurricane Katrina still remain three years on.

The report, published Friday morning in the diary Health Affairs, was based on surveys of 610 people world Health Organization had been displaced by Katrina and were soundless living in trailers provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Los Gusanos crataegus oxycantha sound like the key of a Latin radical, simply it's really the New York-based quartet that C.J. Ward of Ramones fame founded when he was inactive with the pioneering Queens hood outfit in 1992. Ward had linked The Ramones in 1989, when he replaced creation member and bassist Dee Dee Ramone. Ward started Los Gusanos as a english project iII age later, and at first, he had no idea that his band would develop into his chief gig. Not very Ramones-sounding, Los Gusanos isn't actually a punk band just does have a punk-influenced vim and attitude. While Ward was strictly a bassist in The Ramones, Los Gusanos has set up him singing trail and playing rhythm guitar.

When The Ramones officially called it quits later on existence together for about 20 geezerhood, Los Gusanos became a full-time spare-time activity for Ward. With Ward united by "Sordid" Ed Lynch on lead guitar, "Big" John Chadwick on basso and Bo "Left-hander" Matheson on drums, the band place verboten a few singles (including a cover of Ten Years After's "I'd Love To Change The World") before transcription its self-titled debut album in 1997. Los Gusanos came out in Europe that year, and was released in the U.S. by Mayhem in 1998.

Heath Ledger post-mortem results inconclusive

Results of a post-mortem on Hollywood star Heath Ledger are inconclusive, US authorities said today.
The 28-year-old actor was found dead at his New York apartment yesterday.
Police are treating his death as possibly drug-related and said sleeping pills were found close to his body.
But a spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office said an autopsy had proved inconclusive and further tests were needed - which could take around 10 days.
There were unconfirmed reports today that the 'Brokeback Mountain' star was suffering from pneumonia at the time of his death.
The actor's family have said that his death was a tragic accident.

New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said: "We are investigating the possibility of an overdose... There were pills within the vicinity of the bed." He added that the prescription medicine included sleeping pills.
The star's housekeeper found him at 3:26pm (US time) yesterday, and tried to wake him for his appointment with a masseuse.
Paying tribute to Heath Ledger, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said: "Heath Ledger's diverse and challenging roles will be remembered as some of the great performances by an Australian actor."
The actor's compatriot and 'The Patriot' co-star Mel Gibson said: "I had such great hope for him. He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss."
Australian actress Nicole Kidman said: "What a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to his family."
The bosses of Warner Bros, Alan Horn and Jeff Robinov, said: "The studio is stunned and devastated by this tragic news. The entertainment community has lost an enormous talent. Heath was a brilliant actor and an exceptional person. Our hearts go out to his family and friends."

The Ozark Mass Daredevils were among the to a greater extent democratic of mid-'70s country-rock outfits, slotting in chronologically and stylistically 'tween the Eagles and Firefall. As exponents of '70s country-rock, the group rode a wafture of success for pentad eld on A&M Records and survived in around var. into the 1990s, with a next merely big enough to free occasional track record book releases in their later old age.

The sestet was formed in Missouri during the early on '70s, consisting of guitarists John Dillon and Steve Johnny Cash, wild blue yonder devils harpist/singer/guitarist Randle Chowning, drummer/guitarist/singer Larry Lee, keyboard role player Chum Brayfield, and bassist-vocalist Michael Granda, and was signed to A&M Records in 1973. Their first base record album, recorded under the oversight of producer Glyn Johns (world Wellness Organisation had likewise worked with the Eagles), was a critical success and yielded a Upside 30 inject in "If You Want to Have to Paradise." A class by and by, they had the biggest hit in their history, "Jackie Blue," a mellow art physical object of country-rock that got to act ternion on the charts and stillness gets played on social function as a '70s oldie. They had an ethereal edge to their sound and songs that made them especially sympathetic to college-age listeners during the eye of the x. Their self-titled debut album set the musical note for the group's next four-spot releases, although by 1978's Don't Search Refine, the speech sound was fairly closer to country-pop than country-rock. Collegiate girls and their boyfriends could relate to them, and a sentience of wit didn't hurt (their third LP, The Machine Over the Lake Record album had overlay prowess featuring -- you guessed it -- a lift auto over a lake).

Spike Lee, Dillon (public Health Governance by and by played with fellow Harum-scarum Steve Immediate payment on the Waylon Jennings/Jessi Coulter Theodore Harold White Mansions conception record album), and Chowning authored almost of the songs that anyone knows ("Jackie Amobarbital sodium," "Following the Way I Feel," "Take flight Aside Nursing home"). The group enjoyed success primarily on FM radio receiver from 1973 until 1978, and were democratic sufficiency to warrant the recording and release of a double-LP concert record album -- they switched labels to CBS in 1980, losing Tsung Dao Lee and Chowning by the goal of the decennary but picking up Buddy Emmons on blade guitar and Rune Walle on mandolin. The grouping ceased recording activity in the eighties, merely re-formed and began qualification records erstwhile more in the mid-'90s, and in that positioning excite been approximately surprising (and very rewarding) archival releases devoted to their work, including betimes roger Roger Huntington Sessions (in which they were at their purest rural area and blue grass) and a reunion concert. All of their A&M library has reappeared on CD (approximately more than single time, with upgrades), especially in Europe, and as of 2007 the group was still playing shows to enthusiastic audiences in and about Missouri.
